Ready to go at the Red House
Posted: 10th July 2008

Young Foundations has opened its first Scottish-based home for young people.

The Red House, which provides a home for five young people, is based in Johnstone in Renfrewshire. Young Foundations Managing Director Brian Durham said: “We had Scottish children living in some of our homes in the North-East and Midlands. We were conscious of the benefits of being able to have these young people living closer to home. “We also knew there were other young people in Scotland who could benefit from our services, and so we developed The Red House.”

The Red House is a five-bedroom home, for children aged between 12 and 17, although there would not be more than three years difference in age between the eldest and youngest residents. While many Young Foundations homes are rural, the Red House is very much in the centre of a vibrant community, making it easier for the young residents to access and utilise.

Brian said: “The Red House is in the centre of the community which has many advantages, not least it will make it easier for our young people to re-enter mainstream and local education.

“It is a lovely, large building with nice gardens. And being where it is, it lets young people access local amenities, learning social and life skills.”

New Fostering service for North West
Posted: 10th July 2008

Young Foundations Fostering has opened a new office in the North-West.

Based in Manchester city centre the new office, registered by CSCI, offers placements to children and young people aged between 0 and 18.

The independent fostering agency, which has been successfully placing children in foster care placements in the North-East for a number of years, will work with local authorities and families in the North-West area to ensure children and young people can achieve the best outcomes possible.

While Young Foundations already have carers ready to foster children in the North West, more carers are needed. Young Foundations wants to recruit people from different backgrounds who are able to provide a home for children aged between 0 and 18 for periods ranging between from a few days to much longer stays.

Eric Forster, Director of Fostering Services, said: “Foster carers are needed for individual children, groups of siblings, teenage mothers and young people with complex needs who may require a home where there are no other children.

“We are particularly interested in people who have relevant experience, such as youth work, teaching, residential care etc as well as those who have experienced parenting their own children.”

Young Foundations offers a generous package of support including a realistic professional fee and allowance, 24-hour support by qualified and experienced staff and regular training for foster carers.

Carers are also supported by a psychologist from the clinical team and educational staff to ensure that young people are being given the opportunity to achieve their potential.

If you would like to know more about becoming a foster carer please call (0161) 234 0153 and ask for an information pack.
